Out of Area Applications

Coogee Public School has an enrolment ceiling of 520 students, based on 21 permanent classrooms and providing a buffer to accommodate designated intake area students enrolling through the year. As we have a current enrolment of 559 students and 2 demountable classrooms, there is currently no provision for the enrolment of students who do not reside in the school’s designated intake area.

Demand for local places in 2010 has required the school to review its enrolment provision for all non-local students. Our enrolment policy is currently under review. If you wish to discuss enrolment, please contact the school Principal on (02) 9315 7255.

From Overseas

Temporary Visa Holders

Student dependants of people travelling to Australia from overseas on business or study visas may be enrolled in a NSW government school provided that the school is prepared to accept that enrolment. Students can be enrolled for the term of their visa. A student may not attend the school until they have been issued with an authority to enrol.

Most temporary residents who are working or studying in NSW, fall into a category liable to pay fees. There are a few exclusions where fees do not apply. NZ nationals are exempt from fees. Whether fees are to be paid is dependent on the type of visa issued to you. Fees are approximately $4500AUD per year or part thereof. These fees are not paid to the school but to the Temporary Visa Holder Unit. Initial enquiries can be made to

Visitors / Tourists

Visitors who are holidaying in NSW may also enrol their child for a maximum of 12 weeks on payment of appropriate fees. The fees are paid to the DET and not to the school. In all cases the enrolment in a school is a decision for the school Principal to take and is usually based on a space being available. This school usually does not accept enrolments for periods less than one school term. Presently only enrolments from students living in the designated school catchment area will be considered.

Overseas Enrolment Procedures

On arrival in Sydney you should contact the Principal to discuss your situation.

NSW schools operate on a calendar year and students are enrolled into their age appropriate grade. This can have an impact on students who have completed a year in July in the northern hemisphere as your child may be required to continue in that Year group according to their date of birth.

From Interstate

Last year the Department of Education and Training trialled the use of a standardised form to transfer information between schools when students move from one state to another. The initiative is part of a commitment by the states to implement a consistent student information transfer system. When you are preparing to more Interstate you need to complete an Interstate Student Data Transfer Note (available from the School). This form will assist the new school gain important information about your child.

More information on changing schools is available from
www.dest.gov.au/changing schools.

For more information on the Interstate Student Data Transfer Note visit
www.mceetya.edu.au/transfernote.

Remember that different states have a range of starting ages and in NSW a child must turn 5 before 31st July to enrol.
